Pleeeese can someone help First of all, make sure you just aren't missing the key. Mine, for example, was located under disc 2 on the case. A fairly unusual place for it to be and you would not be the first to fail in spotting it there. If it really isn't there then you need to contact the distributor of the game in your area. In the UK I believe that was Big Ben, at least they distributed my UK bought copy.
Only the distributor can help with missing cd keys because they are solely responsible for them and the only ones involved that can generate new keys. If you have already contacted them and have recieved no reply then you will need to pursue it with them or simply wait a little longer for a response. Many will be also aware that this program is now part of the wider Creative Suite of software, which includes digital illustration, video editing and compositing, web design, and even desktop publishing programs. Now, Audition has incorporated elements of Soundbooth, and in the process become Adobe's sole audio editing package. As such, it's present in both the CS5.5 Production Premium and Master Collection bundles, as well as being available as a stand-alone product. After many years as a Windows‑only application, it's also been ported to Mac OS X. Between the consecutive releases of Audition 3 and version 5.5 of the Creative Suite, a lot has changed. The program had been rewritten with a new engine, and integrated more tightly with other Adobe programs. Some panels, particularly those featuring new features or displaying built‑in effects, include a small 'i' in the top right corner; when clicked, this will take you a help page that breaks down all of the functions. It's a handy feature that beats trawling Google for answers. Adobe have recently been focusing on the importance of some key aspects of digital media management: metadata (supplementary information stored within a file) and the free flowing of media and project files between programs in the Adobe suite, as well as to and from software made by other manufacturers.
Metadata allows assets such as audio and video clips to contain detailed notes, so if you're handing part of a project on to someone else, you can be sure they see any special information they might need to, such as a note saying 'slight clipping at 30 seconds, your call.” Adobe's openness is exemplified in their policy of using the XML standard for project files, which means you'll be able to import and export session data from other popular DAWs and NLEs. Multitrack view is very familiar, presenting the usual suspects, such as a mixer tab and arrange page. Metering has received a nice upgrade, and now offers the choice of a variety of different scales and appearances, suitable for everything from casual film‑making to broadcast level checks.
The addition of a video monitor is a serious bonus for those working in post-production. Like the other screens, this monitor can be docked and resized anywhere you like. Audition is full-featured, and in real‑world project use there weren't a lot of things I missed from other DAWs, though it could still do with a couple of additions.
Post‑production projects tend to be very track‑heavy, with tracks sometimes being used for single sound effects that occur once in a whole film. Audition could really do with a Reaper-style folder track system, where a track is toggled to become a drop‑down folder for other tracks as well as a bus. This track organisation system is, as yet, unrivalled amongst the DAWs I've used and I'd love to see it (or a similar system) incorporated into Audition's multitrack view. Adobe's contextual 'smart tool' is as intuitive as any, though I kept clicking the pan automation envelope by accident when trying to perform other tasks.
You can globally disable automation edits in the Multitrack menu, but a single shortcut key for this would be very useful. As with all DAWs, volume automation near the lower end of the scale can mean huge changes in perceived volume within only a few pixels of envelope movement, so a global or per‑track 'envelope zoom' would help tremendously. That said, envelopes, are handled very well. Automation is provided for effects at a per‑clip and per‑track level and the system can access all plug-in parameters even in very complex effects, enabling tweaking with all the fine resolution you'd expect. Waveform view replaces multitrack view when you double‑click a clip, as well as when you manually select it. It appears just as you'd expect it to, with a large waveform display commandeering the same panel that multitrack view uses.
You can perform your usual wave adjustments, edits and trims here, and you also have access to Audition's diagnostic tools, which include a DeClicker, DeHummer, and a silence Deletion tool. There's an amplitude statistics tool here too, which can measure dynamic range and RMS loudness: useful for mastering applications. Audition's spectral editor is quick and easy to use.
Here I've simply deleted sections, but the Spot Healing Brush would sound more transparent. Spectral editing is available in a simultaneous view, and you'll spend a lot of time using it if you often carry out post‑production work. It's not just poor gear and technique that can lead to contaminated audio tracks in video post, as background sounds are sometimes unavoidable however good the crew are.
Audition features the simplest and quickest spectral editor I've used to date, and it's recently been enhanced with tools borrowed from Photoshop. You can either use a standard marquee tool or a lasso tool to select an offending area, then tell Audition to automatically heal this, or to capture it as a noise print for de‑noising. Alternatively, if you're in a rush, you can select the Spot Healing Brush tool (the very same that's used in Photoshop for healing blemishes in portrait photography) and draw on the offended area with a resizable tool.
Once you release your click, the offending audio is removed without leaving a gaping hole. After trying all three tools I found the spot healing to give both the most effective and swift results. Through a combination of zooming and resizing the healing tool, you can even snip out a broad-band transient with only the minimum of distortion.
Smaller sounds such as bird tweets can be removed with only minimal artifacts. Though each channel has its own 'analogue modelled' EQ, you can use any of your favourite VST effects in Audition. Effects are either displayed in the Effects panel for the currently selected track, or in the track itself, depending on whether effects, routing, EQ or inputs and outputs view is selected. Audition has some powerful effects that are designed for off-line use, but can nevertheless be plugged into the multitrack view in real time, if you have the processor power.
These effects (such as the Adaptive Noise Reduction described in the 'Noise Annoys' box) appear in red, warning that you may experience the usual pops and dropouts associated with insufficient processing power. If you do experience problems with real-time playback, the freeze button performs as it does in other DAWs, bouncing the track in the background in order to reduce CPU load. Though I have my own favourite VSTs, I found Audition's effects fine for most work, with built‑in, simple convolution reverb working well for matching spaces between location and studio sound, and the multi‑band compressor sounding nice too. For users of Adobe Premiere CS5.5, Audition is incredibly powerful. In the previous suite, CS5, I would have had to separate my audio clips from Premiere into separate tracks, then either bounce stems and chop these in a multitrack editor such as Reaper, or give each clip its own stem. Either way, it was a lot of time and effort. With CS5.5, things are a lot easier.
After selecting the Premiere sequence you want to edit, choose Edit, Edit In Adobe Audition, and Sequence, and you'll be presented with a dialogue. Here you can select various options, including whether or not you'd like Premiere to encode a preview video for Audition to use, whether you'd like any audio effects you've applied in Premiere to be rendered, and how many seconds worth of 'handle' you'd like either side of the current audio clips. When you export a Premiere video project to Audition you are given the option to add handles to the audio, and create a preview video. Once you've clicked OK, the whole lot is sent to Audition using XML data, which tells the software which parts of the original files you were using and where.
No destructive re‑rendering of audio, unless of course you've taken the uncommon step of applying effects in Premiere. Quite a time saver! What's more, once you've completed your audio edit, you can send it back to Premiere, either by rendering it to a single multi-channel file or sending all of the tracks back as an editable mix. If you want to make any change there's no need to re‑render and re‑import: just send the sequence to Audition again, and your project file will open. It's the stuff that post‑production dreams are made of. If you're multi‑skilled and happen to be working with both audio and video, you need never leave the Adobe Creative Suite, from your video edit, to audio work to final compositing and post‑production.
Impressive stuff. The only little niggle with this function is that video export for linked projects is currently fixed to standard definition interlaced DV: low resolution, with frames 'ghosting' due to the interlacing.
It'd be nice to see this function have a little button that says 'set format with Media Encoder', allowing you to chose the exact dimensions and codec of your preview video. Since I have a quick computer, and was confident it'd handle playback of a higher‑resolution file while editing.
I encoded my own in high-resoluion Avid DNxHD format, which worked well in Audition too. I find time‑stretching within a DAW's multitrack layout is invaluable in post‑production projects, where ADR (dialogue replacement) and Foley (sound replacement) recordings often need subtle timing tweaks in order to synchronise properly.
With many DAWs this is pretty easy: in Reaper, for example, you slice up the clip at each syllable, then by holding Alt and dragging the cuts you can time‑stretch each into place. This is one of the features that was in Audition 3 for Windows, but has not yet been implemented now that Audition has been rewritten, blended with Soundbooth, and linked to the rest of the Creative Suite. I think it should be number one priority for the next update. What's more, the Alt key is currently free in that context, so Reaper's shortcut is free to pinch! I'd love to see this function return to Audition swiftly, with time‑stretching stored non‑destructively in a draft quality while you're working, and only rendered in processor‑heavy high‑quality during mixdown. As it is, time-stretching is only available in Waveform view. You pick either the licensed Izotope algorithm, or Audition's own algorithm.
Comparing both to the real-time Z-Plane Elastique engine found in Cubase, Reaper and FL Studio among others, I preferred Elastique, but your mileage may vary. When working on post-production sound projects, several issues are ubiquitous: noise, synchronisation and acoustic space matching. Audition gives you nearly everything you need to deal with these problems in the box, and turn round audio post-production projects quickly. The only niggles I have are the lack of folders for track and media management, and real-time draft time‑stretching in multitrack view. Though it lacks MIDI sequencing, I could see myself using Audition as a general-purpose DAW too. Audition has grown from a couple of different software stems into a serious contender, not least because of the extremely tight integration with other programs in the Creative Suite.
It's lost a fair few features in the complete rebuild, but an impressively small number considering the amount of work that must have been involved. Adobe are promising to listen to feedback when prioritisng the features that are migrated from Audition 3, and given their track record for responding to customers, I'm sure that they will. Spectral editing in the Waveform view is quick, slick and efficient, with plenty of tools to isolate problem artifacts without destroying the rest of the sound.
The introduction of Photoshop tools (hopefully with more to follow — 'magic wand' anyone?) and the Auto Heal function make it blisteringly quick to eliminate nasty noises, though a fast computer helps. The ability to switch in an instant between multitrack and waveform views, in particular, is incredibly useful, and allows you to deal with a problem as soon as you hear it, rather than bothering with a long‑winded round trip between an NLE and a wave‑editing package. To me, as a Premiere user, Audition CS5.5 is something of a revelation.
The two are designed to work in harmony, and finally being able to just send my sequence to a DAW rather than having to export stems is wonderful. For those not using Premiere, Audition is still a tremendously powerful audio editing tool. While some of the specialist mastering functions are awaiting reintroduction since the v3 to CS5.5 rewrite, most of what you need in a wave editor is present and correct, as is most of what you need in a multitrack DAW. As with all Adobe products, there's a generous fully functional 30‑day trial available, so why not give it a try?
The future looks bright for Audition, and I have a feeling it'll be growing new features faster than we might expect. I'm one of those people who, when installing a piece of software, will untick all of the sample libraries.
For the most part, this is because my projects themselves (especially video files transcoded into lossless formats) are big enough, and I don't want to fill my drive with thousands of samples that I'll never use. While mixing sound for a short film in the course of this review, I needed a sound for a mobile phone vibrating on a table. It's an easy enough sound to capture, but instead I decided to use Adobe's Resource Central. As long as your computer is online (don't tell me you're still using one computer for the Internet and one for working!) you can type a search term into the box and preview a huge number of royalty‑free samples in the cloud, before downloading and placing them in a project.
As far as I'm concerned, this beats having a huge library on your disk that only gets occasional use, unless you've got quite a collection already — in which case you can always remove the Resource Central panel from your workspace if it bugs you! Adobe have included a very powerful Adaptive Noise Reduction plug‑in with Audition CS5.5, and it's great even for dealing with very severe noise problems.
It can be used either in real time or as an off-line effect, with very high levels of processing available. Again, speed is the most impressive thing here, and using just a few sliders I was able to remove noise from some very troublesome dialogue parts. As with all noise reduction, the 'watery' artifacts are there, but they're well controlled.
Between this tool and the Auto Heal and noise‑print tools in the spectral editor, it's possible to clean up very stubborn files at great speed. Summary Audition has been rebuilt with a new engine, and although a few features are awaiting transfer, it's surprisingly complete. The spectral editor is incredibly quick and easy to use and combined with noise-reduction tools. For Premiere users especially, the direct linking of projects save render time, and makes audio post non‑destructive. Audition has come into its own with CS5.5, much as Premiere did with CS5, and it's a solid tool for audio post-production.

Posted in - 19 July 2010 - 124 comments Samsung’s CLP-315 (and CLP-310) are the smallest and cheapest laser color printers around. They just suffer one problem: Samsung protected it against generic toners and its expensive original consumables totally counter-balance the hardware low price. As each page is counted in both toner and printer, refills are also not possible. Printing 1000 white pages will require a new toner: unacceptable and definitively not a ‘green’ product (see ). Modifying your printer will allow you to extend your consumables life, or, if you want to risk your health and printer hardware, refill them. Current chip market Many chips can be found, with or without refill kits, on ebay.
Prices range from $20 to 49$. Seems Samsung changed the gameplay by updating and reinforcing the mainboards, as some chips states working only on units prior to July 2009. Some claim disabling the CLP-315W wifi. By looking at installation pictures, seems that they all target the same IC, using 3 to 7 wires. 5 wires chip from Turkey Some 5 wire chip from china.

Lots of different modchips, and lots of behaviours but we can guess from them: • The IC is the key • Removing the IC breaks WiFi • Toners chips contacts needs to be taped or removed. About the protection The CLP-300 (previous model) was using cylindrical toner cartridges including chips. Replacement chips can be found and some people managed to directly on those. The CLP-310/315 now includes an internal counter to avoid reprogrammed old toners. The printer stores counts in both toner and IC (the target of the modchips). Some google results also states that the first toners have no chip counter (where 4×3 pins contacts from the printer toner door connects to), and those ones can’t be refilled with the 3 wire chips once they are depleted.
The printer starts verifying the toners after the first 1000 pages. If there’s no need of tweaking toners on new printers, can the printer IC be reset?
I did not found much resources about this, except one linking to a no longer available russian page and. What could be understood (less than a little), is that it seems possible to achieve bocking the counter by just unsoldering one and joining two pins of the IC. The mainboard IC being a flash 24C64WP from ST Microelectronics. The linked pins are WC and Vcc. By looking at, the WP pin appears being a ‘Write Protect’ function for the IC.
This now makes sense! Pages counter is blocked just by enabling the internal write protection: Driving it high by connecting it to Vcc. Let’s give it a try! Don’t complain this broke your printer: you’ll loose your printer warranty and this modification is at your own risk! If you never soldered, if you don’t have the right tools and if you don’t know about static charges: don’t do it. Disassembling procedure can be found for this model: You should end up with an exposed mainboard. The IC chip being labeled ‘U1′. Remember how you have extracted the right cover from the front door. This is the most difficult step is reassembly!
The chip is effectively a 24C64WP, but it is on a different location. The mainboard could be removed, but this is a risky step as many wires are connected to it. The plugs can break easily by pulling them. If you don’t have the tool to remove them (each plug have a 0.3mm plastic handle on each side), soldering will be uncomfortable, but possible.
I personally chosen to rotate the printer and face up mainboard, at the risk of loosing some toner powder. Identify the chip (U1 on mainboard) and unsolder the pin 7 (counted counter clockwise, IC mainboard mark on left).
Mine was near CMS C25. This could be quite difficult, so here’s a tip: Start removing some welding (using pump) and then create a “lasso” with some kynar wire.
Pulling the lasso horizontally while heating the pin should raise it a bit. A needle will help once freed from mainboard contacts.
As the grounded pin on the mainboard would create a short-circuit after being connected to Vcc, so carefully check it is not touching. Apply some solder on the two pins and solder the wire, joining them: that’s all. You should end up with something cleaner than this or this would mean you shook as much as me Check connections with a multimeter and reassemble unit. Printing some pages and checking counter (Hold down power button for 5 seconds) showed a still increasing counter. Powering the unit it off for few seconds resets the state to the previous one.
The counters are blocked! About commercial modchips So what are doing the modchips? Here’s my guess: • The 3-Wire one is just write-protecting. This is the same as doing the previous modification. • The 5 wires or 7 wires chips, requiring original IC removal, are replacement ICs. They contain a copy of the counters and configuration of a new unit. Once soldered they act like a new unit write protected IC.
This is why it warns that CLP315W users won’t be able to use WiFi: The mac address isn’t the device’s one and/or WiFi keys/configuration can’t be saved. • The 5 wires one is more interesting. As the original one has no pins unsoldered, I think this one acts as a IC partial reprogrammer when the printer is idle, and/or invalidates some addresses. This is why this kind of modchip works for any printer and still let the user to use and save his wifi configuration. Then do you need a chip? • If you printer is new or under 1000 pages: No.
Just write protect the flash. • If you reached 1000 pages: You’ll need one as you printer will require query toner chips. Another solution would be to rewrite the IC and tape toners chips contacts: this need to be confirmed. Note that if your counters are showing 997 pages, Write protecting will only allow you to print 3 pages before you’ll need to power cycle printer. Can you post your OS version from your tested printer? (you can tell by printing your Configuration Report). I have V1.01.11.52 May-01-2009. I’m pretty sure Samsung is aware of this and maybe (just maybe) Samsung can implement a routine to check if eeprom is tampered by writing some data and reading it to make sure eeprom is writable (again just my guess). I have v1.01.01.58(LF) (written on chip ie not 11) clp-315W /xaa If the wi fi parameters are already written to the eprom, maybe you can disable write access if you are not going to change anything (ie use the same ip address). I also see that if the not wr pin (7) is not grounded it assumes you can write. It is only when put on vcc that you cannot write.
Thus, if the wire is soldered as described, but broken when the wifi parameters are changed, perhaps you can still change the wi fi. Ie that little orange wire could be cut in the middle if wifi changes, and resoldered so the count does not increment. I tried lifting the pin, but think I need a smaller pin/to pry it off. (a jewellers screwdriver is not fine enough) I probably have some wirewrap kynar 30gauge wire but i am not sure i can slip it under the pin to make the lasso. Has any one tried this fix on a version as late as I have?

However I already used little tool to pry, and you are right, i am left with a little stub, and not the whole pin. However, since i’m only going to the next pin, I should be able to just use a blob of soldier. I know I cannot heat it too high.
However, so far, I just removed pin 7 from the ground leaving it unconnected, and decided to reassemble the printer to see if the unit still worked as my hypothesis above. It works fine but still counts. The next step is to soldier blob it and see if that still works, and if not, suck the blob off, and report.
The data sheet for the M24C64 also states that unconnected allows writing. As far as the data sheet reference you asked about, you are right, I did not get the exact sheet. The chip on my board has a date code of 9544 (ie made in 1995), so this part has been around a long time. I got the data sheet for what appears the same pinout m24256bw.
This chip was introduced in 2000 or so. My logic (flawed as it may be) is that much like the 286 was a superset of the 86 (8086), so was this an improvement to the 4256 (or maybe just a clarification of the m2 technology used so all chips with the m2 technology started with m2). This chip is 4 times the bits as the m24c64. So if chips on both sides of the one we have have the same specs (except for memory), I figured this would also. Francis, I think you may have made an slip of the pen on the 310N advice below. IT is in the same box etc as the clp310, and I think it has the same cartridges as that rather than the 300 unit(which i have never seen). M, why not slip the cover off and check the board out, before you give up.
THere is already a reference above to the 300 mod but it seems to require programing the chip. OK I poked a 30gauge wire under pin 8 hitting the stub of pin 7 and soldiered pin 7 and under pin 8, then clipped the wire. The unit now seems to work ok, and prints ok and increments the counters, but when power is put back on, the counters go back to their previous setting.ie it works. The wi fi operation still works.
Since I broke the pin, it will be harder to change the wi fi settings etc in the future. However, I will just leave the unit in one place. I guess in retrospect I could have tried to leave the insulation on the wire 30 gauge wire, and only soldier pin 7 stub, then loop the wire around to go to pin 8, thus allowing disconnection for temporarily writing to update the wifi independent of fiddling around with the pins. And any other settings stored there. However, i am not sure there was really enough room to fit the insulated wire under pin 8, as it seemed a snug fit when I tried before. (but Frances was able to do this as I understand) If the green light just blinks, I found the plug on the bottom front going to the front panel had slipped out (giving me a scare that it did not work ).
Before you make the mod, note carefully the blinking of the lights that goes on before the unit is ready at power on. Then if there is any change, you can use that as a possible guide to what is wrong.
Now another question.(and i assume the answer is yes) With this mod, can I just let the colors run out before refilling, or will something bad happen if I am a bit sloppy on wanting to get the last bit of toner out of the colors?? Hopefully the levels are based on the count rather than an actual measurement, which would cost a bit in electronics I suppose. Like i might just refill the black, and if i really want another color, swap toner units with another unit that has some toner left.

I have noted your suggestion to watch the number of copies by a server count, or other estimate (I guess I can count the reams of paper I stick in the printer). This is ok for black. However, I am curious as to what additional toner lever detecting is in place, and what happens if it goes low. I have done some reading on google, and it appears that some printers have atdc (automatic density control), that makes sure the right amount of toner is on the roller. If too little, the charge is presumably increased, if too small lowered (or some other method to control the flow. If too little and it cannot be increased, the control circuit figures the toner is empty, and normally shuts things down until the toner is replentished. What happens in the case of the clp 315???
Does everything lock up and adding toner is futile?? (this is not on your flow chart–which is very good) Secondly, there is, on a normal clp315 an indicator that indicates when we are at the 25% level. Is this done with the counter? Ie has this been disabled? Or will i still get a 25% indicator.
How is this implemented? Since I print very little color, it will be almost full I think.
Can I tell if the toner is full when I fill it (ie how much should i put in?). If the 25% thing works, then i should be ok if i have spare toner. Can i measure the level as with a dip stick on a car. I see no need to throw out all the old toner as some instructions state, since, in my case it will probably be almost completely full (for colors when there may only have been a couple of red lines for example) Thanks George. I can’t deplete my toners to give you the answer, but i guess the system would either issue an error (cleareable with a poweroff) or print blank pages if toner is empty.
And you’ll probably get no 25% level warning. If you want to refill before it is empty: – The black toner holds 68 grams – A color toner holds 45 grams A and the original toner will help you then. You probably don’t want to measure levels, as toner powder is highly toxic (and samsung wants you to throw them when not empty). The less you have to handle it, the better. A digital scale is a good idea to avoid overfilling espec on color if you are topping up each time. However, if this chip is the only place that stuff can be stored across a power down, then I guess I am safe from the toner empty forcing me to pay (and pay) for the chipped toner cartridge (which was my main concern).
Therefore,maybe i’ll just let the toner run out or get streaky. I guess i was a bit nervous because Some of the messages from the toner refill sellers imply that things can shut down after 3 refills or so, but perhaps that is just the original 1000 limit, and a misunderstanding how the unit works, or based on the way versions before some date worked. THey also say sometimes you have to refill before it is empty, but that may be based on early versions of the printer that did not have this 1000 limit, and perhaps there was something else stored in the chip we have now disabled (like an indication of a toner being empty), so we make this point moot for all versions of the printer. Since the drum is separate, that bodes well for the toners to just be refilled and refilled like 10 times.which I can never seem to do for my black only combined units.
Now, I have to find spare toner. I think i should get a larger jar, which means ordering some other brand of refill.(some lexmark or hp ones are 160 grams color) They are probably all the same anyway.(I hope)–besides you can adjust the color in the software if they are not (that is getting past hope to fairy tales eh ðŸ˜‰ ) But why can’t you just empty the waste toner container–espec on this unit.how gullible are we customers (or is there something i don’t know). The lasso works well when it is dragged along the surface of the board. I practised on a chip with identical legs to the 4256 which I found in a dead low energy bulb. Just as well, as I messed up a few before perfecting the technique.
The counter now resets after power off always giving me 400 pages to go before the dreaded 1000. The low toner warning lights keep flashing despite refills, but that’s just a minor irritation at the moment. So, nice work and thank you for sharing it with the world. I’m now looking for another way to bypass Samsung’s counter and be able to use the toner I already purchased. I know this page suggests using a mod chip for someone in my position, but I’d prefer to stay away from that since it’s really tricky on my version of the printer with the chip being so close to another connector and I’m afraid it’s just going to muck with my wireless settings again. I have some questions about cartridge reset chips. That chip has serial number inside right? When you use it 1000 pages you have to change with a new chip that has a new serial number.
It’s approximately $15 per cartridge. If it’s like that –> It gives me a brilliant idea.
1 cartridge’s chip is $15. 4 color cartridge’s chip $60 plus toner costs $110. Still expensive. Every refill you need a new chip. But your old chip is known for only your printer. So still it can be used for someone else because it has a different serial number.
So the question is if the cartridge chip has a counter in it? I spoke too soon. I was about 65% of Black toner left when I tried this, but now all my toners are written invalid. A multimeter confirmed that pin 7 is not connected and I used Isopropyl alcohol to clean around the chip. I wonder if it overheated in the soldering process even though I was only using a 30W iron. Another possibility of error, which should be confirmed by the datasheet, is I had mistakenly soldered pins 5 and 6.
I will see how much it cost to get a new chip, if not I will have to try the other solutions above! Kicking myself! This is all very interesting. I made the mod in my CLP-315 which had not run low on toner, and has the chipless original toner cartridges. It is resetting the count back to whatever it eas at the time of the mod on power on.
I would really like to have an accurate toner level display in the smart panel. I wonder if this si possible via adding resettable chips to the toner cartridges or something. I also wonder if the toner chips (Black, Cyan, etc.)have the ability to actually measure the toner level, or if they are just glorfied page counters. My thoughts were to change the mod from tying WC high, to an external switch to allow or disallow writing. (Tie the pin either high or low). Then resettable toner cartridge chips which could be reset when toner is refilled.
Then set the switch to allow writing into the chip to reset page count to zero. And let either the Cartridge chips to measure toner level, ot let the mainboard chip count pages, based on how the printer actually works. Hi, I had two of the modchips laying around.

This works perfectly on the CLP 315W/XAA model, manufactured in January 2010 with OS V1.01.01.56.W. The wireless works after the mod as long as it was fully setup before beginning the mod. As pointed out by others the 315W model uses 4256BWP eeprom at the U1 position. The pinout is the same. Just lift pin 7 from the pad and tie it to pin 8 with a jumper per the original instructions.
My pad lifting technique involves adding new silver solder to pad 7 first and then using desoldering wick, I wick up the new and old solder together. I then used a fine needle to lift pin 7 from the pad. Checkout on how to cleanly and permanently insulate the toner cartridge eeproms. How exactly am I supposed to check for the page count? The Samsung Smart Panel only shows like a bar for Black/Cyan/Magenta/Yellow, with the except of the black, are all about half as long as the box it’s in. (I had to replace the Black already because it printed very lightly in the middle of the pages, so that bar is closer to 75%). So far it has never given a toner low warning, and if I go into Printer setting (from the smart panel) I can only see the following: Fuser 2450 Transfer Roll 1306 Tray1 Pickroll 1312 Imaging Unit 2480 Transfer Belt 2480 Nothing actually shows how much each cartridge printed. Is it possible I’m still under 1000 and can still freeze the chip at my state? I stuck some tape on the cartridge for my black toner and it shows this tiny little bar, so I’m guessing I’m still under 1000?
I think I have bricked my CLP-315W. The 315W has another eeprom chip then the 315. Probably the need more space for saving the wireless network settings in them. All my color toners had printed 960 pages and are chipless. My black toner is a new one with chip. But the black toner was still named CRUM-0 in the report. So I think the look only at the color toners.
I first printed the inside toner counter values out by pressing the button for 3 seconds. You need to add those 2 sheets to the black page counter. I translated those values to HEX values and soldered my buspirate to the chip. I first read out the complete chip (32768 bytes) as a backup. Then I searched for those 8 bytes (2 bytes for each toner) and change them all to 0x00 0x00. Then I turned the printer on and all leds lights up. In my samsung smart panel: All toners are exhausted and even the black toner with chip is now suddenly an “illegal toner” So I decided to write those bytes back to there original values, but that doesn’t work.
So the question now is, did I brick the printer or is printer ok if I put in new toners? Probably the printer is now in the same state as if he exceeded the 1000 pages limit. The EEPROM has exact the same content as before, so I think there is another eeprom on the board that remembers all the toner numbers etc. Anyone a suggestion how I can change my printer back to the point before the 1000 pages limit?
Anyone an idea if the toner chips content is changeable? Maybe I can change my CRUM number of the black toner so my printer thinks it is a new one? Does anyone have a CRUM number of a black toner for me? Thank you so much for showing this wonderful method. I tried it immediately to my CLP-315. I have to admit I am not good with soldering.
I managed to ply out the pin and bend it to the pin 8, then I dropped a blob of solder on both pins. It was ugly but an easy fix nonetheless. Everything was done in 5 minute, including the time of opening the covers. Now I see how stupid I am. The black toner was almost out. The configuration report shows that it reached 941 already.
I guess from now on I might have to reset the machine every 60 pages. There is a little thing I want to add. In Youtube there is a Russian video showing the same method. All is same except in the end the Russian guy tape all the metal pins which connect to the cartridges, so no signal can pass to the cartridges. I think it’s a good safety precaution: this way the printer cannot “kill” the cartridge even when their page counts are over the limit. I taped the little circuit board myself, and it works. Even though the printer cannot talk to the cartridges, somehow it still use the data stored in the chip, and print pages as usual.
The link to the youtube video. To Kraker: You know that the data in the chip might be encryted, right? Samsung made the clp-310 and found out that some smart guys started to make modchip for it, so started with clp-315 they encrypted the data in the cartridges. The chip might have the same data in the cartridge, also encrypted.
Since those data is encrypted, your method won’t work. The bad data from the chip might corrupt the data in the cartridges too. The data in the cartridges can only be changed by the printer. So maybe you have to get new cartridges in order to fix the whole thing.
This is awesome! And I can’t believe my hack-job actually worked! I cut the 7th pin with an exacto knife and just soldered a 1/4 inch long copper wire (from a network cable) across the two pins. My black page-count now resets to 888 ages after a power cycle so I can print about 120 pages before I need to power the baby down. I can live with that.
I also taped the initial toner’s contact points just in case. I will report back in a few months on my mileage Now off to eBay to buy some toner powders!
Many thanks for your advices, just to say that i successfully hacked my CLP310, OS v 1.29.11.09. The big thing is that the page counters were beyond the 1000 limit for the hack you described. So my research was about making an “eternal” chip with all the infos I found on the web So I disconected the 5,6,7 and 8 pins off the 24C64 then connected them to a serial to I2C homebrew interface (inspired by the diagram with a 7404 found here: ). The printer was unpowered of course, and I read and saved the dump in a file with Ponyprog (ie it is working! YES!!!) and then reprogammed it with a “fresh” dump you can find here: [url=– 8.0 KB[/url] (it comes from a registrered polish forum, so I uploaded it there to make it easier ðŸ˜‰ ) After that, I resoldered the 5, 6 and 8 pins, and made the bridge between the 7 and 8, as described in your paper. And now, I don’t mind about the cartridges chip as the printer “think” it is brand new! My original 24c64 is now a “forever” one!
I noticed, after this operation, that my olds cartidges, said to be empty, are now recucited! So, it is possible to make this hack even if your counters are beyond the 1000 limit, it’s just a little bit trickier than your explanations, just a question off soldering and electronic skills, patience, and good lenses to see EXACTLY what you do!
